Is this not another Scam in the making ? Isn\'t it better to invest in real Gold rather than paper Gold ? In Investment | Asked by rasiya Invest in physical gold if you are comfortable owning gold and have a place to keep it (locker etc) safely. If you are not, then Gold funds are an option because you do not have to handle gold physically (meaning, ensuring that you are getting true value for the gold, that it is not impure, that you are getting the right price when you sell it in the market, not attracting undue attention for having a lot of gold, cost of storing in the locker or turning it into ornaments etc). Gold funds is not a scam if you are buying mutual funds from reputed MF companies. However, you are unlikely to get the full value you would have probably got if you were astute at gold handling, as MFs are pooling their funds and are not necessarily holding gold on your behalf. For the rest of us, Gold Funds will do the job. Besides funds have variations like there is the DSP Gold Mining companies fund etc which are not directly correlated to the price of gold per-se. I am not a broker nor a gold fund peddler, but it is unwise to look at everything as a scam. Do your research, don\'t expect that anything you touch has to turn into gold, expect swings, but in the long term, gold funds are a good diversification mechanism. Ideally you should own some physical gold too - but only what you can manage.
